Management of Psychosocial Risks

The management of psychosocial risks is an importance part of personnel wellbeing and human performance. Many companies manage this through an annual schedule of activities yet often fail to get to effectively embed the primary interventions which effectively create a psychologically safe workplace.

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety have produced the Psychologically safe and healthy workplaces: Risk management toolkit which outlines the various types of primary interventions to prevent psychosocial risks (see the link below for other types of interventions and additional information). These include:

  • Job redesign
  • Policies and procedures (e.g. early intervention procedure)
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Recruitment and selection processes
  • Supportive leadership
  • Management training
  • Team climate change

Coretex Consulting worked with a number of clients to conduct a gap analysis against the guidance provided by DMIRS. This can help an organisational truly understand their psychosocial risks and how to best embed an effective long term approach to optimise the wellbeing of their personnel.
